This is the parts counter for home servers, homelabs, and local AI builds. Pick a category, read the two or three things that matter for it, and jump straight to current listings on Amazon.

In 2026 the best prices are on open-box and renewed hardware, because a global memory shortage pushed up new RAM, SSDs, and anything built with them. Start with the warehouse deals if you're on a budget.

Words you'll see on this page
  • Open-box: an item someone bought and returned, checked and resold for less. Amazon sells these in Amazon Resale with a condition grade like Like New or Very Good.
  • Renewed: a used device that's been checked and resold, often with a short warranty.
  • SODIMM: the two sizes of RAM stick. SODIMM is the small laptop and mini PC size; DIMM is the longer desktop size.
  • ECC memory: RAM that catches and fixes small memory errors. Common in business servers.
  • VRAM: the memory on your graphics card. AI models load into it, so more VRAM means you can run bigger models.
  • Socket: the spot on the motherboard where the CPU sits. The CPU and board must use the same type.
  • UPS: a battery backup that keeps your server running through short power cuts and lets it shut down safely.

Quick answers

Where should I buy home server parts in 2026?

Start with Amazon Resale and Amazon Renewed for open-box and refurbished parts, then compare with new. The memory shortage pushed up new RAM and SSD prices, so used and open-box gear is where the savings are this year.

How much RAM do I need for a home server?

16GB runs a typical home server with Docker apps, Jellyfin, and Home Assistant. Go to 32GB or more for several virtual machines, and 64GB or more if you'll run AI models partly from system RAM.

Is open-box computer hardware safe to buy?

Usually, if it's graded Like New or Very Good and you test it within the return window. Amazon Resale items come with the same return rights as other Amazon orders. Buy hard drives new.

What's the best graphics card for local AI on a budget?

The RTX 3060 12GB. It has enough VRAM to run 8B to 14B models at a good speed. Skip 8GB cards for AI.
